Garden Achievements

Having recently completed a modern, glass panelled extension to a townhouse in the historic town of Bury St Edmunds, the garden at this property was left as an extension to the builder's yard. Now retired, our clients wanted to have a garden design that reflected their contemporary style blended with the traditional features of a walled townhouse. Part of our clients brief was also to incorporate areas of planting raised above floor level for easy maintenance in the future.

This garden existed over three levels, all very unorganised, some in block paving, some concrete pads and other areas that were simply muddy ramps left over from the build. The garden felt small and was overlooked by neighbours on one side.

We introduced two tiers to the garden to simplify movement throughout, wide steps were stretched across the width of the garden giving the illusion of a wider space and complementary to the large sliding doors on the new extension. Levels were stylishly connected through a hardwood decking that weaved through the two levels forming a suspended bench as it came out over the ground level tier. A daring splash of Victorian black and white tiles were laid on the immediate terrace outside of the sliding door, giving the garden design a bold nod to its past and introducing a talking point for visiting guests. This statement paving was also complemented by large panels of colour, adding interest to surrounding walls.
